"Coaching Tip: Punishment for Dropped Stunts"

Stunts drop all of the time. Most of the time they are caught without hitting the ground, but what should be the punishment if it does?!

There are always going to be many opinions on what to do for dropped stunts, and here are a few:

1.) Nothing,..just tell them want they did wrong!
2.) Pushups for the entire stunt group.
3.) Have them run a couple of laps around the gym.
4.) Have them do stunt conditioning. Have them hold a liberty for 30 seconds and bring it down. Wait a about a minute, then tell them to put the liberty back up. This should be down about 3 times in a row, so they work there muscles to exhaustion. This will help there endurance as well as punish them.
5.) Have them tumble for punishment. Have them do 20 backhandsprings as punishment.
6.) Have them do 50 toe touches in a row. This will improve their jumps as well as teach them a lesson.

Now there will be cases where the flier is hurt and is unable to participate in the punishment. In this cause it is OK to tend to the flier.

I agree in handing out productive punishments (those punishments that actually helped to improve their cheerleading skills). It not only will help improve their cheer skills, but will teach everyone in the group that it's in their favor to catch. If you don't hand out some sort of punishment, then some cheerleaders will not take the fall as serious, and safety has to be of #1 importance.
