"10 tips to get GUYS on your team!"

Cheerwiz.com

Here are some tips about ways of getting GUYS on your cheerleading team:

1.) Girls - Have girls recruit and encourage them. What guy can't resist 2-3 cheerleaders begging for them to come to their practice?

2.) Athletes - Find those guys that are already interested in cheering for the athletics. Don't recruit guys that are outcasts, they are a little harder to get.

3.) Athletic - Explain to them how athletic cheerleading is. Many cheerleaders are football players and/or wrestlers. In high school you can recruit the guys that are on their off-season and college you can recruit the former athletics. Convince them how athletic the sport of cheerleading is, and explain that by doing this they will stay in shape and possibly get bigger and leaner!

4.) Ratio - Explain that there are more girls than guys at there cheerleading functions and that they will stand out like a celebrity. Talk about camps, competitions, games, etc. and let them know that there will be very few guys and a lot more girls. They seem to get a kick out of that.

5.) It's a SPORT! - Explain that cheerleading is a sport? And if you do compete, then tell them all about the competitions.

6.) Visuals - If possible, take them to another COED team so that they can see the potential that they could be getting into. Visually some guys need to see the potential that a COED cheer team has and by visiting and talking to guy cheerleaders from another team may get them excited for that which is yet to come.

7.) Role Model - Get a big collegiate male cheerleader to help persuade them. If they could get the opportunity to meet with another male cheerleader who is physically impressive and secure with himself as a male cheerleader, then their overalls views might change.

8.) Play with their Egos - When you get them to practice let them try some of the stunts, and make them compete with one another. They will like the physical and competitive nature of the sport and hopefully with have them begging for more.

9.) Make Masculine - When you get them to practice have them do more masculine things. Most guys have a presumption of what cheerleading is for guys and it is usually negative, so why feed into their misconceptions by making them work on a dance the first day.

10.) The Perks - No matter what type of squad you are on, there are usually perks. Some college teams may have scholarships and other may have FREE shoes. I know some guys who were happy just to get a FREE t-shirt so you never know!
