"A Better Doubletake"
Cheerwiz.com
The Doubletake is a great cheerleading transition. It's crowd effective and fun to do, but it can be difficult if not done correctly. Here are some tips to make your doubletake easier:
1. (flier) hold yourself - When you come down make sure you grab the bases shoulders firmly to take off the weight and slow yourself down.
2. (flier) Don't push out your bases - Make sure your legs don't go wide when you come down. It will push out the bases and make it harder for them to get you back up.
3. (flier) hold your weight and be controlled - Hold your weight with the standing leg, so your weight does NOt just drop. You need this transision to be controlled and smooth. Gradually bend your standing leg as you come down and hit the ground.
4. (flier) leg to ground - Make sure you don't reach your leg back for the ground OR you will never make it. your leg should come straight down.
5. (bases) allow the flier to touch the ground - Let the flier help you and give her time to touch the ground, so she can give a good push off.
6. (bases) control - Resist the flier right away, and don't let her just drop down.
7. (bases) bend with legs - Don't use your back.
8. (bases) don't drop your arms - You will have a harder time getting the flier back up.
9. (spotter) grab high - Grab high for the flier's waist (or buttocks and ankle) to slow her down.
10. (spotter) throw up - Throw (or push) and guide the flier as she comes up to make the lift easier for the bases (NOTE: NOT too hard).
