"Step and Lock"

Cheerwiz.com

The "Step and Lock" Technique" is one of the first important techniques for fliers. It is used for stepping up onto the base (either hand, shoulder, thigh, etc.)

The proper way to execute the "Step in Lock" is to make sure your foot is secure. Now step up (either shoulder, thigh, etc.) and lock your leg while keeping your other leg dangling. When stable you can pull your stunt (i.e. lib, stretch, hitch, etc.).

Fliers go wrong when they try to pull their stunt before they have locked their leg. This makes it heavier and unsturdy on the bases, and it wobbles and/or falls.
