"Wolfwall Tips”
The Wolfwall is the most popular pyramid in cheerleading. It is visually impressive and can be a tricky pyramid if NOT executed properly. Here are a few tips for the WOLFWALL:
1. Ground up (base) - Have the flier stand on your foot so you can get your hands underneath, and use your legs rather than you back when you lift.
2. Stay together (mid-layer) - Make sure you hold on tight to one another and keep your heel squeezed to the middle flier's hip.
3. Up faster - Make sure bases and spotters explode through the lift. Use the momentum of the flier's jump to pop her up to position.
4. Timing - Timing can throw the whole pyramid off, as well as shift the weight onto the weakest half. Concentrate on getting the pyramid up right away so that your timing will become consistent and adjustments can be made.
5. Spacing - Make sure your bases are all bunched together OR the spacing will be too far apart.
6. (College) flier stay on top - In college the flier actually stands on the mid-layers pocket and NOT just hitch. When she's on top she needs to remain tight and lean her weight into the arm and pocket of the mid-layer whom she is standing on.
7. Hold your own - Middle layers and bases both need to hold their own by reducing any movement and staying tight. The pyramid will try to move you out of place but you must remain tight and stiff or the pyramid may crumble.
8. Up easier - The flier needs to jump off the ground, the bases need to lift with their legs, and the spotters need to help out by tossing and lifting the mid-layer fliers off the ground. In most cases the spotter does one or the other, but NOT both.
