"8 Tips to becoming a GREAT middle layer flier"
Cheerwiz.com
Mid layers are crucial for All-girl and COED pyramids. They can make the difference between a pyramid hitting OR falling. Here are some tips on being a GREAT middle layer!
1.)
Be aggressive - You must go full out. Don't wait for the top flier to come to you,...you must grab her and bring her to you.
2.)
Don't give up - If the top flier is falling, don't give up too easily. The top flier could make 1 small adjustment and save the pyramid. So don't give up on her too early.
3.)
Save It - If you have the wrong grip, make an adjusment to save it. Some times pyramids are only up for a few seconds, so try to keep the top flier up just as long.
4.)
Let go - If the flier is definitely falling let go of her feet so she does NOT fall on her head.
5.)
Guide her- Guide her to the spotters below. This will slow her down and direct her to safety.
6.)
Follow it - When a flier comes up on a toe pitch, catch her high and bring her in to you.
7.)
Squeeze - Squeeze everything from the top flier to your own body, so there is little movement as possible.
8.)
Hold your own- If you are the only thing that the flier is standing on, make sure you hold your position (i.e. table top). It will be uncomfortable, but necessary for the pyramid to hit.
