"How to be prepared when a flier falls!"
Cheerwiz.com
It is always a scary moment when a flier falls from a pyramid, stunt, or basket. Here is how you can be prepared BEST as a spotter.
1.)
Hands up - Have your hands/arms up at all times. You never know what might happen.
2.)
Eyes on flier - Always look at the flier and never take your eyes off her.
3.)
Pick a flier - In a pyramid, make sure you know who's catching who. You would hate for a flier to get missed.
4.)
Understand the pyramid/stunt- Know what is going to happen in the stunt/pyramid/basket. That way you might know WHEN and HOW the flier will possibly come down.
5.)
Head, neck, and back- When a flier falls always focus on her head, neck, and back. Make sure these body parts never touch the ground.
6.)
Hips, hug, catch- When the flier falls grab for her hips first if she is coming down slow. If she is coming down fast then catch her high to slow her down and bear hug her if necessary. Now if she is coming down out of control, then catch whatever you can to slow her down, but NOT her feet.
7.)
Resist the feet- If you see feet then don't grab them. This could cause the flier to flip and land on her head, OR break her arm. Try to catch something else.
