"Make cheer practice more FUN and productive"

Cheerwiz.com

1.) Start with stretching - make it quick, easy, and fun. Play some music and have them stretch to the beat. You can even create a song and incorporate the stretching with it. Just make sure they all are stretching.

2.) Jumps - Have them circle up.  Then announce what jump they need to do and have them do it together on your count.  Do 3-5 of each jump.  It's quick and productive.

3.) Stunting 1 -

a.) Have them pair up into their couples/pods in a circle.  Announce a stunt, then have them do it.  Once down, have the flier move to the next base(s), and do this until everyone has stunting will all base(s).

b). Set the fliers up with their original base and have a stunting competition.  Call 1 stunt at a time, and have them perform it.  The couple/pod that can do each skill without falling wins. This is FUN and forces everyone to actually try and stick the stunt.

c). Pair the team up into couples/pods and split the team in half.  Have the first set go first while the 2nd set will be the spotters.  Go through 4 stunts with the 1st team, then rotate to the 2nd group while the 1st team spots.  You will get good production and proper rest time this way.

d.) (for younger teams) Line them up in a line. You (as coach) get down in a lunge position. Have them step up and lock, then step down. Give everyone a chance to be a flier. Work the basics and make sure they step up on you and lock their leg. Once everyone gets this, then have them pull a lib, then walk down.

4.) Motions - play "Simon says" with motions

5.) Sidelines, cheer, dance - Add only a couple easy motions, not too much.

6.) Tumbling - place them in a line (Or spread out) and have them do the tumbling in front of you on your count.  For those who do not have the tumbling skill, have them do the skill with a spotter OR have them do pushups so that they are not sitting there.  It will also give them motivation to actually work on their tumbling.

7.) Team bonding game -

a.) Pair off onto 2 teams. Have 2 cheerleader cutouts for each team (made out of pieces of paper - the body, the arms, the legs, the head,etc.). Now shout out a stunt OR motion and have each team place the cheerleader in that motion.

b.) Have the team circle up and have one person start with a Ball of string. That person will throw the ball (while holding the string) to someone else, the say something productive and positive to them.  Continue so that everyone gets something said about them.
